Nantucket Crisps

Everyone discovered things about themselves during the pandemic.  For me, it was that I did indeed like chips with my lunches, and I have no idea why I had stopped eating them for 10 or so years.  I came out of the pandemic wanting chips basically every day at lunchtime.  And thus, I've tried a lot of chips since.

My chip quest lead me to a brand I hadn't seen before: Nantucket Crisps.  Based in, you guessed it, Nantucket.  I think they are only distributed around New England, and I haven't ever really even seen them in any grocery stores, just small specialty places.  

I was drawn in my the flavors, as they sound amazing: cocktail sauce (!), hot honey (!!), stuffing (!!!) along with Jamaican jerk, bbq, salt & vinegar, black pepper, sea salt, and sweet onion.  All are named after a location on Nantucket, e.g. "South Wharf cocktail sauce", "Cisco Beach bbq", etc.

"Madaket is all the way on the west end of the island. It’s laid back and one of the more quiet parts of our gray lady. There is so much to see and do … like stargaze, watch the best sunset, enjoy the quiet beaches, and admire the ocean or harbor views from the thin strip of sand at Smith point. As you can see, the moon actually depicts an onion! We chose Madaket to represent this chip because we think its flavor is as sweet as a Madaket summer night."

The first thing I noticed about these chips was the bag size.  Much bigger than your standard individual bag of chips (2 ounces, compared to more standard 1 ounce).  And yet, still considered 1 serving ...

Anyway, the chips are a fairly standard thin crispy style.  Not a particularly remarkable base chip.  On the greasier end of the spectrum, but not so bad your fingers are left coated.  The taste was sorta like the Maui onion style chips, with good salt/garlic/onion levels, and some sweetness (yes, they add sugar).

Overall, a fine, satisfying chip.  I won't rush out to get another bag, but I'd love to try some of the other flavors.  ***+.
